1997-98 Member School Enrollments Announced
As of September 30, 1996, there were 746 member schools 444 Class A, 239 Class AA and 63 Chicago Public League.
Cut-off for 1997-98
- 740 and below = Class A
- 741 and above = Class AA
Cut-off for Boys Soccer Classification for 1997-98
- 1288 and below = Class A
- 1289 and above = Class AA (including Chicago Public League Schools)
The following schools will change classes:
- From Class A up to Class AA Belleville (Althoff), Herrin, Mahomet (M.-Seymour), Olney (East Richland) and Stanford (Olympia)
- From Class AA down to Class A Chicago (Leo), Johnsburg, Lemont (Mt. Assisi Academy), Mt. Zion and South Holland (Seton Academy)
There are three variance schools for 1997-98 classification. They are (with the schools involved):
- Carthage Augusta (Southeastern), Dallas City, LaHarpe and Warsaw
- Kewanee (H.S.) Annawan, Bradford, Buda (Bureau Valley), Cambridge, Galva, Geneseo (Darnall), Kewanee (Wethersfield) and Neponset
- Macomb Astoria, Bushnell (B.-Prairie City), Colchester, Rushville and Table Grove (VIT)
Enrollment Cutoffs: These are the year-by-year figures used to determine classification in the two-class system since the inception of the 65-35 percent system:
- 1982-83 = 701
- 1983-84 = 694
- 1984-85 = 705
- 1985-86 = 706
- 1986-87 = 704
- 1987-88 = 666
- 1988-89 = 673
- 1989-90 = 666
- 1990-91 = 658
- 1991-92 = 645
- 1992-93 = 654
- 1993-94 = 655
- 1994-95 = 684
- 1995-96 = 710
- 1996-97 = 721
- 1997-98 = 740
The following changes in school status are on file in the IHSA Office as of May 1, 1997:
- Nauvoo (St. Mary's) closing
- New Member Schools: Bartlett, Naperville (Neuqua Valley) and Rockford (R.-Christian)
