Mary Struckhoff Named Women's NCAA Basketball Tournament Official

BLOOMINGTON—Mary Struckhoff, newest member of the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) administrative staff has been named as a floor official in the 1997 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament. She will work on a crew assigned to a first round regional game.

It is believed that Struckhoff is the first female state high school association administrative staff member to be assigned to officiate in the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament series.

She began her career as a basketball official in 1986, working grade school and high school games in her hometown St. Louis. After moving to Chicago, where she was a high school coach and administrator, Mary began working college women's basketball. She started officiating Division I women's college basketball in 1992, and currently is a basketball official in seven conferences. She currently works in the Big Ten, Midwestern Collegiate, Missouri Valley, Conference USA, Mid-American, Mid-Continent and Ohio Valley.

Coming to the IHSA staff in July of 1996 from Chicago (Maria) High School, Struckhoff is the administrator in charge of the IHSA Officials Department, as well as several sports and activities. In February, the IHSA Board of Directors launched the revamping of that department. Struckhoff will oversee that process.
