Boys State Basketball Tournament Single-Session Ticket Sale Dropped

PEORIA — Saturday's scheduled sale of single-session tickets to both the 1997 Class A and Class AA Boys State Final Basketball Tournaments at Carver Arena in the Peoria Civic Center will not take place.

The sale of series tickets to the general public began Jan. 4. IHSA Boys Basketball Ticket Policy provides that there be a two week time period between the start of sale of series tickets to the general public and the start of the sale of general public single-session tickets, if any were available. General public series tickets went on sale Saturday, Jan. 4. and subsequently all those available series tickets have been sold. Single-session tickets will not go on sale Saturday (Jan. 18) because there are none available for sale at this time.

Fans of America's Original March Madness® still might be able to see the games in person, according to IHSA Executive Director Dave Fry.

Each of the Elite Eight schools advancing teams to the quarterfinal games of the State Tournament is given an allotment of approximately 1,100 single-session tickets for purchase by their fans. These single-sesion tickets are for the Friday afternoon or Friday evening session in which their school is scheduled to participate. Any of these schools which does not sell all of its allotment returns those unsold ticket to the Peoria Civic Center Ticket Office on Thursday evening. Those tickets are then placed on sale at the Civic Center Ticket Office beginning at 9:00 a.m. Friday morning.

The four teams which win their quarterfinal games on Friday are each given an allotment of approximately 1,100 single-session tickets for purchase by their fans. This time the schools receive an allotment for the semifinal session Saturday afternoon plus the same allotment for the final session Saturday night. Any of these schools which does not sell all of its different allotments for Saturday returns those unsold ticket to the Peoria Civic Center Ticket Office. Those tickets are then placed on sale at the Civic Center Ticket Office beginning at 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning.

Single-session tickets for each day of each State Tournament were put on sale the morning of each day in 1996, the first year of the tournaments Playing in Peoria at the Civic Center. It is anticipated that limited numbers of single-session tickets will be on sale each day of each tournament. The seating capacity of Carver Arena for the IHSA Boys Basketball State Tournmament each session is 11,200.
