Dual Team Wrestling Tournament Moves to Huff Hall

BLOOMINGTON — Historic Huff Hall on the campus of the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, will be the site of the 1997 Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Dual Team Wrestling State Final Tournament on Saturday, March 1, 1997.

"With the expansion of the format for girls basketball to consecutive weekends, relocating the dual team state final tournament became necessary," said IHSA Assistant Executive Director Dr. Martin L. Hickman, the Association's administrator in charge of boys wrestling.. "We explored several facilities in the process of determining our 1997 site. The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, has been very accommodating. All IHSA wrestling will now be conducted in one community."

The 1997 Individual Wrestling State Final Tournament will be conducted at the Assembly Hall on the Urbana-Champaign campus the weekend (Feb. 21-22) prior to the Dual Team State Final Tournament. Huff Hall will become the fifth different site of the Dual Team State Tournament. Now in its 13th year, the dual team tournament was inaugurated in 1984 at the Assembly Hall, and was held there through 1988 , when the dual team portion of the state series was split from the individual portion and scheduled a week later.
