Collinsville's Ganschinietz Reappointed IHSA Treasurer
BLOOMINGTON Collinsville High School principal Ron Ganschinietz was reappointed treasurer of the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) by the Board of Directors at its regular August meeting Wednesday (August 14) in the IHSA Office.
The position of treasurer is an appointed one, according to the IHSA Constitution. The treasurer is appointed for a three-year term. Ganschinietz was first appointed to the position in 1994. He is only the fourth person to hold the position since it was reorganized by the Board of Directors in 1964.
"His leadership in the area of financial management is important to the Association," observed IHSA Executive Director Dave Fry.
The IHSA budget for the current school year projects 4.3 million in revenue and 3.9 million in expenses.

No hearings or appeals were scheduled for the August meeting.
Discussion Items
At each meeting of the Board of Directors, there are certain agenda items which the Board discusses but upon which it takes no action. Following is a report of those on the August 1996, agenda:
- Public/Private Task Force: The Board heard a progress report from Executive Director Fry and Task Force chair, Board Member Gary Collins. They presented the Board a preliminary draft of both administrative and legislative recommendations being considered by the Task Force.
- Sportsmanship Banner Program: The Board heard a report of a concept prepared through the IHSA Sportsmanship/Ethics Advisory Committee. The Sport a Winning Attitude! Banner Program creates opportunities for member schools to implement a year-round sportsmanship program in their communities. Every member school of the IHSA is eligible to participate. The new program was endorsed by the Board. Following is the Sportsmanship Program Criteria:
To earn a "SAWA Banner" schools must adhere to the following guidelines when implementing its sportsmanship program. Each school participating in the program must submit material documenting completion of the following items:
- Adoption of a sportsmanship resolution or statement of beliefs by the school board of the member school.
- Development of a written sportsmanship plan which includes procedures for promoting and evaluating the sportsmanship program, rewarding and recognizing good sportsmanship, and reporting and acting on complaints of poor sportsmanship.
- Establishment of a sportsmanship committee to coordinate the planning and implementation of the program.
- Development of a code of conduct for players, coaches, spectators, cheerleaders and bands.
- Development of a code of ethics for coaches and players.
