Task Force Moves To Generate Working Proposal

BLOOMINGTON — The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Task Force on Public/Private School Issues met for the fifth time Monday (June 17) and put into place the mechanism to generate a working proposal.

Members of the Task Force Monday worked in small groups again to fine tune different concepts in the four areas previously defined by the Task Force as those to be covered in any proposal or set of proposals. Those general areas are: a) Enforcement of IHSA By-Laws, b) Boundaries; c) Transfer Rules, and d) Financial Aid/Scholarships. Each small group created lists of factors in each category to be considered in the initial working proposal. The Task Force next will meet at 10:00 a.m. July 11 in the IHSA Office to evaluate the working proposal.

Task Force Chair Gary Collins, principal of Monmouth (H.S.) and a member of the IHSA Board of Directors, will work with IHSA staff to generate the working document.

"There is a thread running through the fabric of discussions today, and from previous meeting," Collins observed. "I think we can weave a working proposal which may not be a garment that fits perfectly the first time the Task Force puts it on July 11, but it will be one that will wear well, and one to which alterations should be easy. In each of the major areas, there seems to be consensus regarding the direction the working proposal should take. The Task Force agenda for July 11 is that we meet and finalize recommendations."

Authorized by the IHSA Board of Directors at its Dec. 4, 1995, meeting, the Task Force is composed of 22 members and includes representation from throughout the state, as well as from public and non-public member schools.
