Mary Struckhoff Named Assistant Executive Director
BLOOMINGTON Mary E. Struckhoff was named as Assistant Executive Director of the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) by the Board of Directors at its regular April meeting Tuesday. Ms. Struckhoff will join the IHSA staff July 1. She will be the 22nd person to serve on the administrative staff, and is the ninth female administrator in the 98-year history of the organization.
"Mary will bring to our staff knowledge of all aspects of athletic administration," said IHSA Executive Director Dave Fry. "She has been a coach, an administrator and an official at both the interscholastic and intercollegiate level."
Ms. Struckhoff comes to the IHSA Office from Maria High School in Chicago, where she has been the chairperson of its physical education department and its athletic director. She joined the staff at Maria in August of 1993. She was assistant director of athletics at Chicago State University for two years prior to joining the Maria Staff. At Chicago State she was compliance coordinator and the senior women's administrator.
She coached softball at the University of Chicago during the 1991 season, and was an administrative intern for the North Star and Mid-Continent Conference prior to that. From 1982 through 1989, Ms. Struckhoff served as athletic director, and coached volleyball and softball at St. Louis (Ursuline Academy) and St. Louis (St. Elizabeth Academy). She is a native of Florissant, MO, and graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School.
Ms. Struckhoff is a major college and IHSA basketball and volleyball official. She began her basketball officiating career in 1986, and works in six NCAA Division I conferences, including the Big Ten and Missouri Valley. She is a registered IHSA basketball official. She began her volleyball officiating career in 1990 and works in two Division I conferences. She is a certified IHSA volleyball official.
Ms. Struckhoff majored in physical education and was a varsity softball and tennis player as an undergraduate at Benedictine College in Atchison, KS, earning her bachelor's degree in 1982. She obtained her master's in Physical Education/Athletic Administration from Western Illinois University in 1990.
More than 140 applications were received by the Board of Directors for the position.
