Legislative Commission Forwards Two Additional Proposals to Membership

The Illinois High School Association’s Legislative Commission met in special session today (Jan. 21, 2009) and voted to forward two additional by-law amendment proposals to the membership for approval.

Proposal #1 deals with the pension system currently in place for IHSA administrative employees.  The amendment would remove the provision from By-law 1.480 that requires the IHSA to maintain a retirement system “comparable to that of the Teachers’ Retirement System of the State of Illinois.”

Proposal #2 would amend By-law 3.111 to allow the executive director to grant exemptions to the coaching school participation by-law for programs run under the auspices of World Sport Chicago.  World Sport Chicago is a branch of the organizing committee that is preparing Chicago’s bid for the 2016 Olympics.

The final vote by the IHSA member schools will begin on Friday, January 23 and conclude on Sunday, February 22.

If approved by a majority vote of the membership, the proposals would take effect 30 days later, on March 25, 2009.

The text of the proposals is available in a PDF document.
