Fall Bracket Drawing, PART 2

Changes in the structure of IHSA tournaments this year have necessitated an additional drawing to determine the random pairings at the sectional level of this year's girls volleyball tournaments.

In Class 1A and 2A, all sectionals will be seeded at the sub-sectional level, which appear in the assignment sheet as Sub-Sectional A and Sub-Sectional B. The regional winners are cross-paired so that the Sub-Sectional A regional containing the number 1 seed is paired with the Sub-Sectional B regional containing the number 2 seed, and vice versa. At issue is which of these matches will be played first.

By random drawing, this year the matches will be played as follows:

  1. The first sectional match will pair the winner of the Sub-Sectional A regional containing the number 1 seed and the Sub-Sectional B regional containing the number 2 seed.
  2. The second sectional match will pair the winner of the Sub-Sectional B regional containing the number 1 seed and the Sub-Sectional A regional containing the number 2 seed.

In Class 3A and 4A, there are several sectionals outside the 7-county Chicago area that will be seeded at the regional level. At the sectional level, those teams will be paired randomly, according to the following system:

  1. The names of the four regional sites will be alphabetized according to standard IHSA naming protocol and numbered from 1 to 4.
  2. The first sectional match will be pair the winner of Regional #2 and the winner of Regional #4.
  3. The second sectional match will be pair the winner of Regional #3 and and the winner of Regional #1.
