The Illinois High School Association formally introduced its new Severe Weather Policy today as part of a Lightning Safety Awareness Week press conference held today at the IHSA Office.
The policy will take effect with the start of the 2007-08 school term and will be used during all IHSA state series contests. Additional information about the policy will be provided to member schools as a part of the IHSA’s annual all-school mailing and in the sport specific manuals prepared each year and to contest officials at rules interpretation meetings beginning in August.
June 24-30 is National Lightning Safety Awareness Week, and interested individuals can also access the National Weather Service’s release regarding the dangers of severe weather at Illinois Emergency Management Agency Web site.
