Yesterday the Illinois State Board of Education revoked its recognition of the Elmwood Park school district. Since recognition by the ISBE is a prerequisite for membership in the Illinois High School Association, the IHSA has placed Elmwood Park High School on suspension for failing to comply with Article 1.250 of the IHSA Constitution. Until such time as the ISBE restores its recognition of Elmwood Park High School, IHSA member schools are prohibited from competing against the school in any interscholastic competition, including those in which the IHSA does not sponsor a state tournament (such as dance team).
(2:45 p.m.) Today the Illinois State Board of Education restored recognition status to Elmwood Park. Based on the school’s recognition by the ISBE, Elmwood Park High School has been reinstated as a member of the Illinois High School Association, effective immediately.
