Legislative Commission Votes to Place 5 of 26 Proposals on Annual Referendum Ballot

Five of the 26 proposals submitted to change the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Constitution and/or by-laws were placed on the annual referendum ballot by the Legislative Commission at its second meeting Monday (Nov. 28) in the IHSA Office.

The ballot containing the five proposals will be available online to each IHSA member school on Tuesday, Nov. 29. The deadline to submit the online ballot is midnight, Wednesday, Dec. 28. The ballots will be counted and the results posted on Thursday, Dec. 29. A simple majority of votes cast on each proposal will determine whether it passes.

Following are the proposals on the 2005 IHSA annual referendum: No. 4 (as modified, see below), 11, 13, 14, and 25. Proposals No. 5 and 15 were withdrawn by their submitters. The remainder were rejected by the Legislative Commission.

A total of 34 of the 35 elected commissioners attended Monday's meeting.

Guidelines and regulations for classification of non-boundaried schools are applied to all non-boundaried schools.  A non-boundaried schools is defined as any private school, charter school, lab school, magnet school, residential school, and any public school in a multi-high school district that does not accept students from a fixed portion of the district.
