IHSA Transfer Policy for Victims of Hurricane Katrina Outlined

Many schools across Illinois are receiving new students who are victims of Hurricane Katrina. Many of these students are homeless, and it will be difficult, if not impossible, to obtain school records.  In addition, many will be interested in participating in interscholastic programs at their new schools.  To assist member schools and the displaced students, the following procedure should be followed to secure eligibility rulings:

  1. Please send a completed copy of the "Transfer Eligibility Form."  It is understood that schools may not be able to complete all sections of the form.  The IHSA will rely on the local school’s determination regarding grade status, academic standing, age verification, etc.
  2. Please send a copy of any determination made by your school's Homeless Liaison that classifies a student as homeless.

The IHSA will make every effort to expedite these rulings, and in general, will consider these students as being in "circumstances completely beyond their control."
