Multiplier Waivers Granted to Nine Schools

The Illinois High School Association today granted enrollment multiplier waivers for the 2005-06 school term to nine member schools. The 1.65 enrollment multiplier on non-boundaried schools of 450 students or more was instituted by the IHSA Board of Directors at its March, 2005, meeting in an attempt to level the playing field between schools with fixed enrollment areas and other schools. The waiver application process, which ended on August 1, allowed affected schools to state their case for being exempted from the multiplier.

The waiver applies to all sports and activities except boys football, which is conducted over a broader range of classes than other sports and activities (eight, compared with two for most of the others).

Schools whose waiver applications were approved (9): Chicago (CICS-Northtown Academy), Chicago (Cristo Rey Jesuit), Chicago (Noble Street Charter), Chicago (St. Scholastica), Chicago (University), Elgin (St. Edward), Lemont (Mt. Assisi Academy), Palos Heights (Chicago Christian), West Chicago (Wheaton Academy).

Schools whose waiver applications were denied (10): Belleville (Althoff), Breese (Mater Dei), Chicago (Leo), Kankakee (McNamara), Lansing (Illiana Christian), Lombard (Montini), Quincy (Notre Dame), Rock Island (Alleman), Wheaton (St. Francis), Woodstock (Marian).

Affected schools that did not apply for a waiver (5): Chicago (Agricultural Science), Chicago (Bronzeville), Chicago (Hope), Chicago (Jones), Normal (University).
