Don Hooton, who lost his teenage son due to steroid abuse, will
be among the speakers at a "Success Without Steroids"
seminar to be held at Barrington High School on Thursday, August 11.
Since the death of his son Taylor, Hooton has spoken before the
United States Congress and countless sporting organizations
throughout this country in an attempt to eradicate steroid use in
youth sports. He is president of the Taylor
Hooton Foundation, which he founded in his son's honor to keep
the issue of steroid abuse in the public spotlight.
The program will run from 7 to 9 pm. There is no charge, but space is limited, so you must reserve your seat with Brian Grasso at Barrington High School. His number is 847-849-9610.
Mr. Drew Janes
Drew captained the 2004 Barrington Broncos Football Team. He was awarded the MSL Defensive Player of The Year Award and is considered one of the best 'two-way' players in Bronco's history. Although regarded as an exceptional athlete, Drew is also an intelligent young man and extremely gifted student. He served as Student Body President at Barrington High School during the 2003 - 2004 school year and will be attending Brown University in the Fall.
Mr. Donald Hooton
Don is the Chairman and President of the Taylor Hooton Foundation for fighting steroid abuse based in Plano, Texas. Taylor, Don's son, lost his life two years ago due to steroid abuse. Since this tragic event, Don has single handedly brought the issue of youth steroid abuse into the mainstream of United States media. Don has spoken out against steroid use to various groups across the country and has testified in front of the United States Congress three times at hearings dedicated to eradicating steroid use in both professional and amateur sports. Dr. Cynthia Labella
Dr. Cynthia LaBella is Medical Director for the Institute for Sports Medicine at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago, and assistant professor of pediatrics at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. After earning her MD from Cornell University Medical College in New York and completing a residency in pediatrics at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Dr. LaBella completed a sports medicine fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. LaBella has served as team physician for many high school, college, elite, and professional teams. Her research efforts focus on developing strategies to prevent injury in youth sports. Dr. LaBella is board certified in both pediatrics and sports medicine.
Mr. Brian Grasso
Brian serves as Director of Athlete Development for The Sports Academy Northwest in South Barrington. He has worked in the sport performance and athletic development industry for over 10 years. In that time, Brian has served as a personal coach or consultant to literally hundreds of athletes throughout the world including youth, high school, NCCA, professional, National Team and Olympic competitors. Brian is considered one of the foremost experts on athletic development and performance enhancement anywhere in the world and frequently lectures other trainers and coaches on applied training techniques.
