PEORIA
– The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Board of Directors
Saturday (March 20) approved the form of its task force on
classification. The first meeting of the task force was set for
April 26 in Bloomington. The Board expects the task force to
conclude its work and submit its report to the Board by December
2004. Recommendations from the task force would be implemented for
the 2005-06 school term.
The
Board has challenged the task force to develop its focus at that
first meeting.
“Our
goal is to remain an Association that includes both public and
non-public schools,” said IHSA Executive Director Dr. Martin L.
Hickman. “The Board is charging the task force to review the
concept of classification of schools and develop recommendations
that create as level a playing field as possible among all member
schools.”
Prospective members of the task force were identified by the Board Saturday. The Board authorized the Executive Director to contact them immediately. There will be three members on the task force from each of the seven geographic Board of Directors divisions. Two of the three will be from public schools and the third from a non-public school. Board member Joe Schlender, principal of Hoffman Estates (Conant) serves as chairman of the task force. Board members Dr. James Quaid, principal of Oak Park (Fenwick), and Ron Conner, principal of Clinton, will serve as liaisons to the task force along with IHSA Assistant Executive Directors Dave Gannaway and Beth Sauser.
