The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) staff is continuing its inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Friday's regional championship game between Cairo and Metropolis (Massac County) and the incidents that followed, according to Executive Director Dr. Martin L. Hickman.
Hickman said IHSA staff was still in its fact-finding function. He said he anticipated the review will continue through this week, and that the earliest any decisions would be made regarding the incident would be during the week of March 8.
Massac County beat Cairo, 64-61, in the regional championship game, and advanced to the Eldorado Sectional Tournament, which begins Tuesday (March 2). Massac County plays Benton Wednesday (March 3) at 7:30 p.m. The incident began in the gymnasium after the conclusion of the game and continued in the parking lot.
