Board Concludes Annual Summer Meeting

The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Board of Directors concluded its annual summer deliberations meeting Tuesday. Each summer, the Board meets for its annual review of IHSA goals, activities, policies and procedures. The Board also tied up loose ends.

Action Items

2003-04 Budget - The Board approved the annual operating budget for the upcoming fiscal year (July 1-June 30). The budget projects revenues of $6.4 million and expenses of $6.2 million. The budget is on file in the IHSA Office.

Dual Team Wrestling Site - The Board approved Moline High School as host and Wharton Fieldhouse in Moline as the site for the 2004 Dual Team Wrestling State Final Tournament. The one-day tournament will be held Feb. 28, 2004.

Music Organization Date - The Board approved April 23, 2004, as the date for the 2003-04 state organization contests. The Board also directed IHSA staff to work with the advisory committees to establish dates for state series events without factoring in the various ACT test dates.

Emerging Sports Policy - The Board adopted a revised Emerging Sports Policy effective with the 2003-04 school term. The Board also directed the IHSA staff to post listings of the emerging sport teams being sponsored by member schools on the IHSA Web Site, in a similar fashion to the posting of Cooperative Teams.

By-law Interpretations - The Board approved a series of new interpretations and illustrations regarding new by-laws that were adopted by the membership beginning July 1, 2003. The Board also adopted revised interpretations and illustrations of existing by-laws. The changes will be reflected online at the IHSA Web Site and will be printed in the 2003-04 IHSA Handbook with Illustrations that will be shipped to member schools in the annual all-school mailing. The annual all-school mailing will be sent to the membership August 4-5.

Hearing Procedures, Awards Policy, Cheerleading Competition, Charter Schools, Official Ball Agreement, Wheelchair Basketball, Guidelines for Adding/Deleting State Series, Marketing Plan for the Association, Contract Administrators, IHSA Bid Process/Renewal of State Final Contracts, High School Activities Week, Financial Aid Criteria, Amendment Proposals for the Legislative Commission this fall.
