Board Acts on Quincy (Sr.) and Basketball Coach Violations

The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Board of Directors in a telephone conference call meeting Friday (Jan. 24) took the following action regarding Quincy (Sr.) High School and Coach Loren Wallace:

            1) Reduced the penalty imposed on basketball Coach Loren Wallace to 15 games. Wallace will be eligible to coach Feb. 1, 2003. On Dec. 4, 2002, Wallace was ruled to have exerted undue influence regarding the transfer of Brooks Allen from Pittsfield to Quincy (Sr.), and was suspended from coaching at any IHSA school for one year. On Jan. 13, 2003, following an appeal hearing, the Board determined that there was a recruiting violation but that it was not undue influence and Brooks Allen was ruled eligible immediately to participate in interscholastic activities at Quincy (Sr.) High School.

            2) Determined additional sanctions will be forthcoming against Quincy (Sr.) High School for failure to comply with IHSA by-laws and policies. The school will be notified of these penalties within the upcoming week (Jan. 27-31). On Jan. 13, the Board acted to require that Quincy (Sr.) respond to a series of questions regarding its application of IHSA by-laws and policies in this case. Friday's Board action followed receipt of the school's response to the questions following the Jan. 13 appeal.
