Spring Bracket Drawing

The blind drawing that determines the state final pairings in bracketed team sports was held at the IHSA Office on Tuesday, March 26, starting at approximately 10 a.m. This drawing covered the fall sports of boys water polo, girls water polo, girls soccer, girls softball, and boys baseball. 

Randy Kindred, sportswriter for the Bloomington Pantagraph, will make the drawings.  Traditionally, the pairings are made by ordering the 8 sites that feed into the quarterfinals in alphabetical order and numbering them from 1 to 8. Then 8 numbered peas are drawn from a bottle. The number on the first pea drawn represents the site whose winner will occupy the first position on the quarterfinal bracket, and so on.

SPECIAL NOTE FOR WATER POLO COACHES

There has been some confusion about the pairing process among water polo coaches, who are not familiar with the way the IHSA traditionally pairs the state finals.  The IHSA does not seed the state finals. Instead, peas are assigned randomly to each sectional, and then those peas are rolled from a bottle to determine the actual pairings.
