The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Board of Directors tied up loose ends regarding state series dates and sites at its regular meeting Monday (Feb. 11) in the IHSA Office.
The Board approved a five-year extension of its current agreement with Eastern Illinois University as host of the Girls and Boys State Final Track and Field Meets in Charleston. The current contract concludes with the upcoming 2002 state finals. The meets will be held at O'Brien Stadium, which has been resurfaced since the end of the EIU football season. The extension is for the meets in the years of 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007. In addition, the university will sponsor an interactive
Panther Pentathlon for fans attending the meets, beginning this spring.
Dates for the upcoming State Final Chess Tournaments at the Peoria Civic Center were approved. The event will be March 7-8 in 2003, February 13-14 in 2004, and February 11-12 in 2005.
Feb. 28, 2002, is the deadline date set by the National Federation of State High School Associations to register for the 2002 National Leadership Conference.
The Board voted not to assess membership dues for the upcoming (2002-03) school term. The Board also received the annual report from Great Lakes Advisors regarding the IHSA Retirement System.
