Water Polo State Series Becomes Reality This Spring
BLOOMINGTON The Illinois High School Association (IHSA)
will conduct its first-ever state series in Water Polo for boys and girls during the
(next) spring of 2002.
The sport becomes the 13th in which IHSA will crown state champions for boys and for
girls. The sport season begins on Monday of Week 35(Feb. 25, 2002) in the IHSA
Standardized Calendar and ends no later than Saturday of Week 45 (May 11, 2002). Schools
may conduct their first contest in Water Polo no earlier than Monday of Week 36 (March 4,
2002).
Asst. Executive Director Beth Sauser will administer the inaugural state series. She
also is the administrator for swimming and diving.
The IHSA Board of Directors will appoint an advisory committee for Water Polo after the
first of the year. It will be responsible for developing recommended Terms and Conditions
for the state series, and other administrative procedures for state series managers and
for conducting the combined state final tournament. The IHSA Board of Directors must
approve those recommendations.
A total of 51 schools have entered the girls series, while 65 schools have entered the
boys series. Member schools had until Dec. 1, 2001, to enter a team or teams in the Water
Polo state series. If 65 different schools entered by the deadline, the Board of Directors
had agreed to sponsor the state series this school term.
Following are the listings of schools entered in the 2002 Girls Water Polo state series
and the 2002 Boys Water Polo state series as of Dec. 1, 2001.
