The blind drawing that determines the state final pairings in bracketed team sports
will be held at the IHSA Office on Wednesday, November 28, starting at approximately 10
a.m. This drawing will cover the winter sports of boys wrestling, girls basketball, and
boys basketball.
At least one member of the media will be on hand to make the drawings. All media personnel
are invited to be present in the IHSA Office to witness the proceedings.
Traditionally, the pairings are made by ordering the 8 sites that feed into the
quarterfinals in alphabetical order and numbering them from 1 to 8. Then 8 numbered peas
are drawn from a bottle. The number on the first pea drawn represents the site whose
winner will occupy the first quarterfinal position, and so on.
The pairings will be posted on the Internet as each pea is drawn.
The date and time of the drawings for the spring sports will be posted as that season
approaches.
