October 16, 2001
Carthage High School has been on strike and its football team may end the season with its third straight forfeit loss on Friday (Oct. 19). That will give Carthage a 5-4 overall record.
Playoff pairings will be made Saturday (Oct. 20) and will be released first during the Football Playoff Pairings Show on the IHSA Television Network. The show will originate from the Press Box at Naperville (Central) High School Saturday night. The Playoff Pairings Show begins at 7:00 p.m.
It is projected most teams with 5 wins will qualify for a berth in the playoffs. If Carthage qualifies as an at-large entrant into the playoffs, it will be paired accordingly.
According to the Football Playoff Terms and Conditions, Carthage must complete five separate days of practice (excluding Sunday) before it can resume competition in football. If Carthage qualifies for the playoffs, and completes five days of practice before the date of its First Round game, it can play the game. If Carthage does not practice on five different days prior to the date of the First Round game, it will not be eligible to play the game. If Carthage qualifies and is subsequently not eligible to compete, it will forfeit the First Round Playoff Game. The team scheduled to play Carthage in the First Round game will receive a forfeit win and will advance to the Second Round in the playoffs..
