The blind drawing that determines the state final pairings in bracketed team sports will be held at the IHSA Office on Friday, August 10, starting at approximately 10 a.m. This drawing will cover the fall sports of boys soccer and girls volleyball. Boys football, which operates under a different system, will be paired on Football Pairings Night, October 20.
Bryan Bloodworth, sports editor of the Bloomington Pantagraph, will make the drawings. Traditionally, the pairings are made by ordering the 8 sites that feed into the quarterfinals in alphabetical order and numbering them from 1 to 8. Then 8 numbered peas are drawn from a bottle. The number on the first pea drawn represents the site whose winner will occupy the first position on the quarterfinal bracket, and so on.
