BLOOMINGTON - When the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) launches the first telecast on its IHSA Television Network there will be four over-the-air stations and 30 cable systems in the starting lineup.

More than 3 million households throughout Illinois will have access to the network telecasts this fall. It is anticipated additional cable systems will be added to the network as the 2000-01 school term progresses.

Telecasts of the six 2000 Football Playoff Championship Games from Memorial Stadium in Champaign will be live. Telecasts of the Class A and Class AA Girls State Final Basketball semifinal and championship games will be live. Telecasts of all eight games in the Class A and Class AA Boys Basketball State Finals will be live. Telecasts of the other sports will be tape delayed.

All the cable systems on the network will be carrying the telecasts on one of their basic cable channels. The basic cable channel used by each system will be determined by the respective system. Viewers should contact their local cable system for exact channel and time for each event.

AT&T Cable systems throughout the state make up the majority of cable companies in the network starting lineup.

Over-the-air channels scheduled to carry all the network programs are WYCC-TV (Channel 20) in Chicago and WAOE-TV (Channel 59) in Peoria. In addition, WUSI-TV (Channel 16) in Olney and WSIU-TV (Channel 8) in Carbondale are scheduled to carry the football telecast.

The first telecast is the Girls State Tennis Tournament championship matches in singles and doubles. Those matches will be played this weekend and the tape-delayed telecast is scheduled to begin airing on the network stations beginning Saturday, Oct. 28. Time of the tape delay telecasts will be determined by each station/system. Additional replays of the events also will be scheduled by the stations/systems.
