IHSA Stops Review Of Nash Transfer

The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) today (Oct. 10) announced it has suspended its review of allegations undue influence was involved in the transfer of Damien Nash to East St. Louis (Sr.) from St. Louis (Riverview Gardens).

IHSA Executive Director Dave Fry has informed East St. Louis (Sr.) administrators of his findings. The review of the factors involved in Nash's transfer began in late summer. New East St. Louis (Sr.) football coach Darren Sunkett came to the school from Riverview Gardens.

Fry said from the review of the transfer, "it appears there is no question that Damien Nash is attending East St. Louis (Sr.) High School this year because Darren Sunkett is there as a teacher and football coach. But, the allegation that Coach Sunkett unduly influenced Damien's transfer or violated IHSA recruiting by-laws to secure his attendance there is not substantiated by the evidence we've gathered."
