East St. Louis Player Ruled Ineligible

IHSA Executive Director Dave Fry ruled Tuesday (Aug. 22) that a transfer student is ineligible to participate in interscholastic competition at East St. Louis Senior High School this school term.

The student transferred to East St. Louis from Riverview Gardens High School in Missouri. An investigation by the IHSA found that the student and his mother are not residing full-time in the East St. Louis high school district. On the basis of this evidence, Fry ruled that the student is in non-compliance with by-law 3.043 and ruled him ineligible to participate at East St. Louis during the 2000-01 school term.

In the course of the IHSA's investigation, evidence was obtained to support allegations that a violation of recruiting by-laws may have occurred in regard to the student's transfer. That investigation remains open.
