The 2015 IHSA Boys Volleyball State Finals return to Hoffman Estates High School on Friday and Saturday, June 5-6.
IHSA TV veteran Matt Rodewald will be on the call as all eight matches will be broadcast live on the NFHS Network at www.IHSA.tv.
A brief synopsis and individual team stat leaders from each qualifying team are available below & a full weekend schedule is located on the righthand sidebar:
New Trier (37-2) looks to cap an amazing season that started with 20 straight victories by winning the school’s second state title (1995). Even better news for Sue Ellen Haak’s Trevians, neither team they lost to this season (Loyola, Naperville North) will be competing in Hoffman Estates this weekend, as the Trevians avenged the Loyola loss in the Sectional final.
Kills: 239, Peter Hindsley
Assists: 700, Dante Chakravorti
Blocks: 80, Collin Crowder (6-8)
Digs: 312, Brian Hammes
Sandburg (36-4) is enjoying its best season under Sean Airola since 2011, when the Eagles claimed the fourth state title in school history. Sandburg has been dominant in four postseason matches, winning all in two games with the average margin of victory being 25-17. The Eagles have five players with 65 blocks or more this season.
Kills: 337, Paul Chmura
Assists: 1053, Grant Burden
Blocks: 92, Kyle Van Stedum (6-5)
Digs: 180, Colin Ensalaco
Vernon Hills (30-9) makes its second state final appearance in school history in 2015, and first since 2011, with both coming under the guidance of Chris Curry. The Cougars are playing their best at the right time, having defeated Lake Zurich and Barrington in Sectional play, teams they combined to go 1-3 against in the regular-season.
Kills: 269, Dylan DeBoer
Assists: 416, Jared Bennett
Blocks: 84, Lem Turner (6-6)
Digs: 284, Alon Polischuk
O’Fallon (24-9-6) and fourth-year head coach Katelynn Hagarty finally breakthrough for the first state final appearance in school history, making the Panthers the second school to represent the Metroeast area at state. Edwardsville (2011, 2014), who was the first, beat the Panthers three times in the regular-season before O’Fallon returned the favor in the Sectional semifinals.
Kills: 223, Alex Belongy
Assists: 484, Lucas Hackman
Blocks: 89, Austin Minor (6-3)
Digs: 373, Alex Belongy
Glenbard West’s (37-2) third-place finish a year ago was the best in school history for Christine Giunta-Mayer’s program and the team is looking for a bigger prize with several key returnees back from a year ago. The Hilltoppers have won their quarterfinal contest in both of their previous state final appearances.
Kills: 225, Kyler Kotsakis
Assists: 759, Paulie Bischoff
Blocks: 92, Parker Swartz (6-5)
Digs: 258, Ryan Condon
Lake Park (19-15) won its first trophy a year ago when Tim Murphy’s team finished fourth, but a return trip to state didn’t appear to be in the cards following a 1-6 finish to the regular-season in 2015. The Lancers have turned it on in the postseason, as three of their four State Series opponents have been held to 19 points or less.
Kills: 327, Kyle Murphy
Assists: 730, Austin Patchin
Blocks: 50, Nick Dakajos (6-5)
Digs: 355, Blake Heitman
Addison Trail (33-6) pushed Lake Park to the brink in a three-game Sectional final a year ago before falling, but Chad Grant’s group has responded in 2015 with the first state final appearance in school history. Senior Alex Dickman (6-3) is the only player at the state tournament with 400 kills or more this season.
Kills: 452, Alex Dickman
Assists: 643, Joey Nasti
Blocks: 84, Jack Vrchota (6-4)
Digs: 223, Arlind Rojba
Hinsdale Central (25-12) makes the final quarterfinal a matchup of two first-time qualifiers, as Mike Konrad has guided the Red Devils to state in just his second season at the helm. Hinsdale Central hopes to capture the magic that has led to eight state championships for the school thus far this year.
Kills: 293, Jake Regnery
Assists: 721, Kian Peterson
Blocks: 36, Kian Peterson (6-2)
Digs: 252, Chris Elliot
