IMPORTANT! If you simply wish to add a sport (and you are already a licensed official), use the following form instead: |
The IHSA is looking for men and women who want to return something to their sport, their school, and their community by becoming licensed athletic officials. Candidates must be at least 17 years old, in good physical condition, and able to make decisions on their feet and stick to them.
We currently license officials in 13 different sports: baseball, basketball, competitive cheer, football, boys gymnastics, girls gymnastics, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, track and field, volleyball, water polo, and wrestling.
To become an IHSA official, you'll need to fill out an application, submit three character references, and take an open-book rules test. Once you are licensed, you'll need to attend an annual rules meeting that will introduce you to the latest rule changes and interpretations.
If you'd like to start the application process, you may:
1. Print the instructions and application in PDF format (if Adobe Acrobat Reader is installed on your computer), and then mail your application to the address listed on the form.
OR
2. Fill out the form below and click the Send button at the bottom of the page. We'll put an application in the mail to you right away. A cover letter will come with the application to explain the licensing process.
