America's Original March Madness Quarterfinal Game 2

QUOTES AND NOTES

Winning coach: Lance Freeman, Tolono (Unity) - ``Obviously, I'm very proud of the individuals. Not only the ones behind me, but the guys over in the locker room as well. Everybody picked us to lose a long time ago in the post season but we talked about it in the locker room about gaining respect. I know today the paper here in Peoria picked us to lose and now we've got the respect that we've been looking for."

``One way or another we're going to take home some hardware now. Our goal was to win five games which got us to Peoria. We've reset our goals and we want to win three and win the state championship. We've now accomplished one step of that goal. Plus, we have to do our laundry."

``I can't be any prouder of these guys than I am right now. We got down nine, we weren't hitting open shots, we weren't playing good defense. All of the sudden, we talked about not digging ourselves into a big hole. We felt comfortable going into the fourth quarter and once we got into the fourth quarter we felt if we had the lead we keep the lead. We executed our ball control of the offense excellently. I don't know what it is but for the first three quarters we shoot about 18% from the free throw line. Once we get into that fourth quarter, it goes up to 85% and I don't have an answer for that. But that's the best time you want to be hitting your free throws."

Losing coach: Gus Gillespie, Robinson - ``Well, obviously we're disappointed but proud. Robinson hadn't been here in a long time and our kids are very upset because we feel like we didn't play to our expectations and I was a little disappointed that the whole state did not get to see Nick Brooks because of extreme foul trouble."

(On the Brooks brothers fouling out) ``We played 30-some games and that's never happened and then you get up here and you play Tolono, which is a good team, and I tell you what they play a good game and I hope they go on and win the thing. You know they bring a football style to the court and two or three of your kids foul out. I wish them the best of luck."

(On the football style of Unity) ``I don't think it frustrated him. I tell you what, we're used to playing physical but I thought when you leave your feet and it's very physical, that effects his game. You know physical on the floor for Nick Brooks is no problem. He's the strongest kid out there but when you leave your feet and its physical, especially with his jumping ability, yeah its going to bother his game."

``We had our chances. (Jared) Whipkey hit a big three and we go to the line and have an opportunity to hit a free throw but games are lost little on tangibles."

``One thing I was very disappointed in and I'll look at it on tape is free throw block-outs. They got three or four but they miss a free throw and we'd let them right back in because we didn't block-out. Our kids were claiming there was a lot of contact, but I don't know. I just know they ended up getting the ball and then we'd have to foul again and sooner or later they're going to knock a free throw down."
