 Notes & Quotes
Winning coach, Mike Napoleon of Winnestka (Nerw Trier) "I never thought the game was over. I'm just happy we're still playing. A lot of things happened in this game. We had bad hop for us and a bad hop against us. The story of the game from our side was getting the run in the sixth. The biggest play of the game was when we picked the guy off third. We ran the run-down to perfection and that kept Trzesniak from coming up with men on base. We wanted to let (Matt) Lottich go as long as he could. Then (Steve) Floersch came in and did a nice job. He hasn't pitched much recently and he gave us a lift. (Matt) Sharp is just a money player. We gave him the ball to win or lose the game. Andrew showed its mettle. They hit the ball hard all the time."

Losing coach, Frank Ganser, Tinley Park (Andrew) "It was pretty wild out there today. When we came here we didn't expect a total of 29 runs at all. The second inning was a killer. We just couldn't stop them. Those runs in thesecond put us in a huge hole. After that inning we told the team they could get a run or two here or there we could get back into the game. At that point we were on the verge of being taken out (by the 10-run rule). The runner (Scott Nawrocki) was coming around third and he wanted to make a play. I was yelling at him to stop but he never heard me. That's my fault. The shortstop's play in the seventh was big one for them. I don't know how he did it. But this was a game of a lot of big plays. I knew we would hit the ball and score some runs. I didn't think the two teams would combine fo ras many as we did."
NOTE: The 29 runs scored by Winnestka (New Trier) and Tinley Park (Andrew) in the first semifinal of the 1999 Class AA State Baseball Tournament is a new all-time state baseball tournament record.
