STATE CENTRAL: 2013 IHSA Boys Swimming & Diving

Bookmark and Share

The 82nd annual edition of the IHSA Boys Swimming & Diving State Finals are set to unfold at New Trier High School in Winnetka on Friday and Saturday, February 22-23.

Saturday of the state meet will mark the first time that the IHSA Athletes With Disabilities events are conducted at the boy's state meet. The inaugural races will feature three competitors in Frankfort's Chaz Centore, New Trier's Charlie Gentzkow and Fremd's Daniel Suero. The 50-Yard Freestyle, 100-Yard Freestyle, 200-Yard Freestyle and 100-Yard Breastroke events for Athletes With Disabilities will take place prior to the able-bodied race in that event per the schedule on the righthand sidebar.

The Trevians dominated the state meet year ago, as the New Trier 400-yard freestyle relay team of Sam Skinner, Reed Malone, Jack Mangan and Max Grodecki set a national record (2:59.76) during prelims and the squad rolled to the team title a day later with a 120-point cushion over runner-up Naperville North.

The Trevians welcome back Mangan and Malone, who was also the 200-Yard Individual Medley state champion a year ago, as a part of 14 total competitors who will be competing this weekend. That tally is second among all teams, as Hinsdale Central and Barrington enter tied with a meet-best 15 competitors apiece after finishing tied for fourth and tied for 23rd a year ago, respectively. The only other returning state champ hails from Loyola Academy, a team contender with 10 competitors after placing seventh last year, as senior Andrew Jovanovic returns to defend his 100-Yard Butterfly title.

Every prelim event on Friday and championship event on Saturday will be webcast live with full video and audio, free of charge, on www.IHSA.tv, with PrepAquatics.com's Skyler King calling all the action from the New Trier natatorium.
