Fairfield High School senior Dakota Young severely injured his leg during an ATV accident on September 21 and the three-sport athlete eventually had to have the leg amputated nine days later. Enduring seven surgeries during his 18 days in the hospital, Young managed to return to the Mule basketball team on December 9, 2014 just hours after being fitted with a prosthetic leg.Young turned 18 years old on December 21, and Fairfield head coach Scott McElravy decided to surprise him with his first game action of the season. With a minute and half remaining in the game, Young entered to a standing ovation from the entire gymnasium. That applause turned into raucous cheering from both the Fairfield and Johnston City fans as Young, a 6-3 post player, pulled up from beyond the three-point range in the waning moments of the game and found nothing but net.
